Empowering Your Journey to Personal Growth and Connection

Psychotherapy for anxious and grieving adults

You’re probably scrolling late at night or surreptitiously at the office, avoiding work and chores–maybe feelings too. At this moment you’re lonely, whether or not there are people in the next room, or right next to you in bed. But you don’t want to feel that, so you’ll think of a solution, or google some more hoping to find one. Or perhaps you’ve tried all those lists of 11 things to do for a better life and it’s still not working. You may have even been to therapy before, and found it helpful, but you’re back into this same emotional place again. It’s time for a deeper approach, to get at the unconscious roots of your pattern. I’m here to help.

Mitchell A. Skidmore, LSCSW

There are no quick fixes or hacks to a meaningful life.

Therapy with me doesn’t usually doesn’t involve “homework” per se, but an expectation that you will begin to wonder at and observe your inner world. As this exploration deepens, you begin to feel your unmet needs, until they are clear enough to motivate change. Feeling in that way can be unsettling, that’s why I’m there with you. What exactly the changes will be depends on you. But often clients tell me:

● I can better understand what my emotions are telling me
● I’m able to prioritize myself
● It’s easier to communicate with people close to me
● I know what my boundaries are and I can enforce them
● I can keep calm, even when life circumstances aren’t ideal
● I know what I want for my life
● I’m ok with human weakness
● I feel free
● I feel satisfied by my relationship(s)

Clients who make these changes are usually less anxious, depressed, and in less pain. Let’s meet and see if this way of therapy could be right for you. Our early sessions are a chance for us to get to know one another, understand what brings you to therapy, and determine if we are a good fit. Sessions occur weekly or more frequently depending on your goals. Therapy with me is generally longer term to allow for greater depth, understanding, and lasting change.

Where understanding
meets transformation.

My Values

Clarity

Insight is all about clarity. Seeing more clearly what’s happening inside you helps to improve your ability to communicate and understand others - when you know what’s confusing, we know where to dig and ask questions together. I strive to make the process of therapy as clear as it can be, and to understand you deeply – bringing the true you into crisp focus.

Commitment

Trying your best to do what you set out to do, until you achieve or change your mind. I strive to keep my word, to respond promptly, and to stick with you through the difficult process of transformation. Relationships take commitment, and psychotherapy at its most basic is a healing relationship.

Integrity

I strive to live by my own values and by my own limits. I strive to acknowledge conflicts, face failures, and to have compassion for the humanness in each other. I amthe same person wherever I show up, but I know my roles and take my responsibilities as a professional and community member seriously.

FAQs

  • I get asked this question sometimes, the answer is no. You can call me Mitchell, or Mr. Skidmore if you’re more comfortable. I’m a clinical social worker, which means I have a Master of Social Work degree, and the highest level of license available to those with my degree. It is a lesser known fact that social workers provide the majority of mental health services nationally, and make up over 50% of the behavioral health licenses issued in Kansas.

  • I charge a professional fee of $200/hour billed in quarter hour increments. Typical psychotherapy sessions are 45-55 minutes (i.e. $150-200) The fee is the same regardless format, in-person or telehealth. Fees may also apply to some out-of-session services.

  • I am accepting new patients with commercial Blue Cross and Blue Shield Affiliate plans. If you have Medicare or VA insurance as your primary, I am not in network and would have to see you private pay. For other commercial insurance plans I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance to receive partial reimbursement through out of network benefits if available. Please call the membership services on the back of your insurance card to verify if "Mental health care codes 90791, 90834, 90837, 90847, 90846 are covered under my plan at an out of network provider."
